Going with the flow of CSR

This year’s “Z prądem CSR” (English – “With the flow of CSR”) is the second initiative undertaken by the students of Tricity taking part in the Responsible Business League (Polish – Liga Odpowiedzialnego Biznesu, LOB) program. The aim of the program is to raise awareness of social responsibility’s practical aspects in the process of managing a company.

One of the program’s cyclical meetings, held in the STARTER Entrepreneurship Incubator on 18 March 2015, was devoted to the role of business ethics as the crucial element of CSR. During the meeting, the head of audit and CSR at Martis CONSULTING Anna Pawelska introduced students to the premises and specifics of introducing ethical programs in companies, including key elements such as ethical codes and institutions designed to assist in ethically difficult situations. The participants acquired better understanding of the concept of whistleblowing in the practices of both Polish and foreign companies.

The lecture was accompanied by a presentation of good practice from the program’s partner Polpharma, who elaborated on the firm’s ethic code. The theoretical part was followed by a Q&A session and practical workshop, training students’ ability to solve ethical dilemmas based on Ethical Code provisions.

Such series of lectures, enabling students to familiarize themselves with numerous aspects of CSR, is an invaluable initiative. It gives them a chance to expand their knowledge about CSR, challenge stereotypes surrounding the concept, and apply social responsibility in practice during workshop sessions. Participants of the cycle represent a generation that values social and ethical aspects of business activities. Entering the labor market, they will expect employers to live up to their declarations. It is encouraging, that even today those young people devote so much attention to this issue”, underlines Anna Pawelska.
